i am not sure how to capture the excitement, dedication, eagerness to learn, and passion i have for the populations i will be working with this semester. but the feelings are overwhelming-in a good way of course.
this semester i will be interning at the veteran’s hospital where my time and experiences will focus on substance abuse, mental illness, and homelessness. it is everything i have always hoped to do. and today, i was once again reminded of how little i know. because really, if you think about it, you don’t know anything-especially when compared to all the things in the world there are to know about.
today was meaningful because i started my internship. because i got home from the VA and wished i was still there soaking up more knowledge and information and getting to know the clients. who would have known you could learn so much in a day? today i met my supervisor and was inspired to read, apply my knowledge, search for more information. i was re-insprired to dedicate myself to improving my abilities so i can help clients get to the place they want to be.
it’s a wonderful feeling to be able to say you are spending your life doing the things you love most. for me, social work is it.
its just as amazing to be able to say that going to work makes you happy and feel complete.
and today was only the beginning.
